30/10/2013 The Ministerial Council of the Energy Community met on 24 October in Belgrade, in a meeting dedicated to infrastructure development, security of energy supply and improving competitiveness of companies. It was also decided to extend the Energy Community Treaty until 2026. A high-level working group chaired by MEP Jerzy Buzek shall find the optimal balance between ‘bad cop’ and ‘good cop’ approaches to help the members of the Community – the Western Balkans, Moldova and Ukraine – implement EU legislation in the field of energy. At the same time regional specificities have to be taken into account, especially the institutional and financial capacities of the countries to enforce the reforms.

On 1 January 2014 Serbia will pass on the torch of the Energy Community Presidency to Ukraine. The new Presidency will concentrate, among other issues, on energy security, investments and diversification of energy supply.
